‘Developing Women Leaders’ Event

The Mike Warne Event – The Future of Influencer Marketing

The future of influencer marketing is this year’s hot topic that will be addressed at the Mike Warne Event.

With influencer marketing continuing to grow in popularity, this year’s final year BA (HONS) Marketing Communications students at Bournemouth University, with the support of CIM, have sourced a range of speakers experienced in influencer marketing.

Since the events launch in 2007, the lecture addresses topical marketing issues, and honours the memory of CIM Regional Director, Mike Warne, who was a strong advocate of building relationships between aspiring marketing students and the CIM. The event now attracts over 200 attendees annually.

Speakers include:
Louie Gatas, Digital Marketing Manager (EMEA) at Warner Bros. Louie has over 12 years’ experience in digital marketing and a wealth of experience across both sides of entertainment and digital communications.

Philip Brown is Head of Influencer Marketing & Brand Advocacy at Come Round. Philip focuses on getting brands into the hands and homes of brand advocates and influencers. Philip is a renowned speaker and spokesperson, having spoken at festivals and conferences across Europe and featured in PR week, The Daily Beast, The Huffington Post, the Telegraph and Brandwatch.

Jamie Spafford is one of the founders of YouTube’s most engaging cooking channel’s, SORTEDfood. Jamie has helped build a global community of more than two million friends who love socialising around food, his role is looking after community, media and partner relationships. The channel uses a unique blend of entertainment, inspiration and education to reach and engage millions of people every month in one of the world’s largest conversations around food.

Launch of BU Short Courses for the Tourism and Hospitality Industry

Bournemouth University has just launched a brand new suite of short courses, aimed at professionals in the tourism and hospitality industry. Its aim is to help Supervisors and Managers to further develop their potential and competitiveness through the management of staff; development of product and service; and through the use of digital marketing.

‘The Seed Fund 2017’ for Food and Drink Startups – Now Open for Entries

The Seed Fund 2017

Seeking food and drink’s entrepreneurial stars of tomorrow, The Seed Fund is a philanthropic organisation which nurtures small and start-up businesses within the industry.

This year The Seed Fund is going national with the support of Great Taste, to help even more start-ups and small producers grow and flourish in food and drink.

Entries are open to ambitious start-up businesses under 4 years of trading and 500k of turnover, as well as small producers who have won a Great Taste award in the previous year.

12 selected companies will be offered a place on The Seed Fund Academy – a series of workshops, mentoring sessions and inspirational talks that take part across the country during the summer months.

The academy is hosted by a range of industry experts and will cover a broad spectrum of disciplines from social media and marketing to raising finance and even how to take beautiful food photography.

One overall winner will be chosen after the academy and announced at the beginning of September. They will receive a year of support from a select team of Seed Fund mentors, alongside £100,000 worth of branding and marketing development from Bristol-based design and marketing consultancy, The Collaborators.

Forthcoming Event – Finance in Dorset 2017

PKF Francis Clark will be holding their inaugural Finance in Dorset event on the 2nd March.

This seminar will feature presentations from sources of grant, debt and equity funding, as well as business support agencies operating in the region.

The presentations aim to provide delegates with a basis for an assessment of which funding stream/funder matches their requirements.

During the event there will be targeted sessions aimed at start-ups/businesses who have been trading for less than two years and those that have been trading for more than two years.

There will also be an opportunity to speak to presenters ‘one to one’, to follow up issues raised or to make an introduction for a follow up meeting.

Department for International Trade ‘Ready for Export’ Workshop

PKF Francis Clark ‘Finance in Dorset’ Event – 2nd March

PKF Francis Clark are presenting their inaugural ‘Finance in Dorset’ event on 2nd March at the AFC Bournemouth Vitality Stadium.

Adding to their series of existing events, Finance in the South West and Finance in Cornwall, Finance in Dorset looks to bring together people representing the funding and support streams potentially available to SMEs. The event will be of relevance to Business Owners and Managers looking to find the best finance options available for their business and the support on offer to help them achieve their aims.

During the event there will be targeted sessions aimed at start-ups/businesses who have been trading for less than two years and those that have been trading for more than two years.

Innovate UK Launch New Funding Competition

Innovate UK’s open competition aims to help overcome barriers to innovation by providing funding for innovation-based enterprises. Such enterprises should demonstrate their readiness to deliver a project leading to new, highly innovative processes, products or services. Ideally these would result in successful commercialisation and/or significant, sustainable growth.

The competition is open to the best business-led, innovative or disruptive ideas or concepts. These can be drawn from any technology, engineering or industrial area. This area can be one that fits into, or be outside of, any one or more of Innovate UK’s 4 priority sectors for growth.

To be in scope, a proposal must:

  • demonstrate transformational or disruptive innovation leading to novel, new products, processes or services
  • articulate a clear, anticipated growth and commercialisation impact for the business(es) with considerable, demonstrable (as you would set out in a pitch to any serious investor) potential to lead to a significant return on investment (ROI)

Priority will be given to proposals that are likely to lead to sustainable gains in productivity and/or access to new overseas markets through export-led business growth.

To lead a project you must:

  • be a UK-based business
  • be a business of any size
  • carry out your project in the UK
  • work alone or in collaboration with others (businesses, research base and third sector)

Innovate UK have allocated up to £15 million to fund innovation projects in this open competition. Successful applicants can attract grant funding towards their eligible project costs.

The percentage of costs that Innovate UK will pay through a grant varies. It depends on the type of research being carried out and size and type of organisation involved.

Projects can focus on:

  • feasibility studies which may include a proof of market
  • industrial research
  • experimental development depending on the challenge identified and proposed solution

For technical feasibility studies (which may include a proof of market) and industrial research, you could get:

  • up to 70% of your eligible project costs if you are a small business
  • up to 60% if you are a medium-sized business
  • up to 50% if you are a large business

For experimental development projects which are nearer to market, you could get:

  • up to 45% of your eligible project costs if you are a small business
  • up to 35% if you are a medium-sized business
  • up to 25% if you are a large business

Find out if your business fits the EU definition of an SME.

Projects may last between 6 and 36 months. Total eligible project costs should range from £25,000 to £1 million depending on the type of R&D to be undertaken. It is important to note that any project with total costs outside this range will be deemed out of scope and ineligible.

An applicant can only submit one project application per competition round. If more than one application per round is submitted, only the first application will be considered for assessment.
