Capabilities and Social Capital of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Research Project

Researchers: Thanh Huynh and Dean Patton

Department of Leadership, Strategy and Organisations, Faculty of Management, Bournemouth University

Time: 1st September, 2015 – 1st April, 2016

While many are suggesting that management style is a key to the growth and sustainability of SMEs and that building appropriate networks is a significant factor in creating this style, there is little practical help being offered to provide exemplars of good practice that can support the sector.  This study aims to collect information on the management styles exhibited in SMEs, the types of networks that are formed and how both these factors influence the performance of the company.

CEO and management team of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) across the UK were invited to participate in a research study titled ‘the Contribution of Management Teams and Networks to Improved Business Performance’. Those responding to the questionnaire are eligible for the prize draw, an Apple Watch.

The survey was undertaken from the 15th of November to the 12th of December 2015. A lucky respondent was randomly selected as the winner of an Apple Watch draw.
